What Made The Birthday Girl Priyanka Chopra A Global Star?

Bollywood’s ‘Desi Girl’, now a global icon, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, blows her birthday candles on July 18. She has been the winner of the Miss World 2000 pageant and is one of India’s highest-paid and most popular entertainers. Chopra has 54.9 million people following her every move on Instagram, 47 million on Facebook, and another 26.3 million on Twitter.

‘The Sky is Pink’ actor has not only made her mark in Indian Cinema, but she has left no stone unturned in Hollywood. Priyanka recently joined the cast of Hollywood’s most prominent and the most successful franchise, Matrix 4. The film also stars Carrie-Anne Moss, Yahya Abdul Mateen ll, and Neil Pattrick Harris.

The climb to the top hasn’t been easy. She didn’t become an international success overnight, but through gradual conquests. Her first brush with international fame was back in 2012 when she collaborated with rapper Will.I.Am for her single In My City.

Next came the song Exotic (2013) with producer and rapper Pitbull.

 Her third single was a cover of Bonnie Raitt’s I Can’t Make You Love Me. All three songs made her famous over the global music scene. And the success of these tracks spilt over to a voiceover role in Disney’s animated movie Planes (2013).

 Her big push towards prime time stardom on American TV came with her hit series Quantico, which came out in 2015.

Fans across the world loved her character Alex Parrish, and she soon became a household name in America, appearing on American magazine covers by the dozen and appeared as a celebrity guest in all major talk shows. Two People’s Choice Awards for her ground-breaking performance on American TV just cemented her position as an international star. This wasn’t about crossovers and collaborations any more.

 In 2017, she got the chance to play the antagonist Victoria Leeds in Seth Gordon’s big-screen remake of Baywatch opposite Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.

Her next American film was A Kid Like Jake (2018)

She played a supporting role in the film. She likewise played another supporting role in Todd Strauss-Schulson’s comedy Isn’t It Romantic (2019), playing a yoga instructor.

Future wise, she’s going to star in the film adaptation of Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel The White Tiger, produced by Netflix and directed by Ramin Bahrani of Fahrenheit 451 and 99 Homes fame. Rajkummar Rao is her co-star in the prestigious project. Priyanka was excited to be a part of the project. It was also reported that she was to star in the Amazon series Citadel opposite Richard Madden. The project was to be helmed by the Russo brothers. She is said to be working on a superhero film, We Can Be Heroes, directed and produced by Robert Rodriguez. She is also said to have bagged a starring role in the forthcoming action film Matrix 4. A collaboration with Mindy Kaling on a rom-com is on the card as well.

Priyanka supports various causes through her foundation The Priyanka Chopra Foundation for Health and Education. She has been associated with UNICEF since 2006.
